Adrian Marcel has put the release of his debut album, Got Me F’d Up on hold and readies the final mixtape to his Weak trilogy.
Slated to arrive in March, Weak After Next: Reloaded (The Last Damn Week), the forthcoming mixtape will serve as the follow-up to his 2014 mixtape Weak After Next. The suave crooner has released “Liar” as the first offering from the new mixtape. Instead of just releasing the song alone, Marcel drops its accompanying visual as well.
On the truthful record, Marcel puts a girl in an interrogation room and drills her about the mistreatment she’s dealing with in her current relationship. The Oakland, Calif. native is calling her out because he believes she deserves a more suitable mate — like him.
Last week, Marcel released an acoustic project titled Fifty Shades of Adrian: Unplugged. It features six acoustic songs including covers and his own material from previous mixtapes.
INTERVIEW: Adrian Marcel Talks ‘GMFU’ Album & Mentor Raphael Saadiq
Before 2014 ended, Rated R&B sat down with Marcel to discuss his GMFU album. “I’m very into my emotions, I’m very into who I am as a person and what I feel and I’m not afraid to feel however I feel,” said Marcel. “So, with “Got Me F’d Up,” it’s so deeper than that. It’s I’m f’d up over your love, I’m f’d up over this heartbreak, I’m f’d up over the fact I don’t have my own time anymore, I’m f’d up that I don’t get to see my family as much as I want to. Um, I’m f’d up because I love women and that makes it hard to love one (laughs). All these different subjects that have come with me are the beginning of the chapter.”
