John Legend is looking to win another Oscar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co will collaborate with IM Global and Furst Films to produce a new musical romantic drama.
Miguel has been mentioned as the musical’s potential leading star. If selected for the film, the “Adorn” artist will portray a former one-hit wonder who regains is love for music when he is hired to coach an aspiring singer for her audition on a singing competition show.
Aside from producing the film, Legend’s will assist with the music for the project. The film’s script has been written by Taylor Cohen. Nabil Elderkin will serve as director.
“Mike, Ty and I are really excited about producing our longtime friend and collaborator Nabil Elderkin’s directorial debut. He’s a major talent and being able to cast Miguel in the male lead puts us in the position to really build an incredible film with strong musical elements. We look forward to working with this dream team we’ve assembled to deliver something special,” said Legend.
The film is expected to start production in September in Philadelphia.
