Grammy award winner Usher makes a powerful statement in new song “Chains” featuring Nas and Bibi Bourelly.
After the recent violence and police brutality that has poisoned the African American community, the track really hits home. “Chains” sends an upfront message and acts as an anthem for those who don’t feel the need to face the troubles of the world today. Adding an interactive undertone behind it, Usher bridges his musical gift with reality and gives listeners a responsibility and something to take away from his words.
“You act like the change / Tryna throw me in chains / Don’t act like you saving us / It’s still the same / Man don’t act like I made it up / You blaming us / Let’s keep it one hundred / You gave the name to us / Nigga, We still in chains,” he sings.
Usher shared his thoughts on this matter in a statement. “I was motivated by the events involving prejudicial injustice that are still happening today,” he said .”The reality is that racial bigotry diminishes the lives of too many people in our country. We have to come together as a country to solve these problems and this is one way I can contribute. I chose to introduce the song through the #DontLookAway experience because it is important not only to feel the issue but to face it. The pain and suffering that these victims and their families have endured is something we must never forget. When we look away from this problem it gets worse. To fix it we have to face it.”
