R. Kelly’s thirteenth studio album, The Buffet, is here. The standard version consists of 13 tracks with appearances from Ty Dolla Sign, Tinashe, Lil Wayne, Jeremih and Juicy J and Ariirayé. The deluxe version contains 18 tracks including a feature from Wiz Kid.
Kelly recorded 462 songs for the project, which contains a mix of genres including hip-hop, R&B and country — yes, country!
“I wanted to cover a lot of different genres, and in order to do that you have to do a lot of work,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “So there are about seven or eight country songs that I chose from in that category, and broke it down to one song out of those eight. So there is one country song on the album. I’m not doing all these different genres of songs just to do them. This is all the different types of music I loved growing up. For example, I’ve always said I’d love to do a blues song. I love blues. My grandfather did blues. I always loved country because country music tells stories, and I love telling stories as well. These styles of music really hit home for me, and that’s why I’m doing this Buffet album.”
