The Voice - Season 9

The Weeknd had an amazing year in 2015 with his highly successful album, Beauty Behind The Madness.  His momentum isn’t slowing down one bit. Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees for the 2016 Academy Awards. Among the nominees was The Weeknd’s number one single “Earned It” from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack for Best Original Song.

The 25-year-old singer expressed his gratitude in a statement via his Twitter page. “It can’t get more surreal than this. Thank you for the recognition @TheAcademy . Truly a proud moment,” he tweeted.

The Canadian singer will battle against artists like Lady Gaga and Sam Smith. The 2016 Oscars will air live on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. local time on ABC.

In other award-related news, The Weekend is also nominated for seven Grammy awards this year, including Record of the Year (“Can’t Feel My Face), Album of the Year (“Beauty Behind The Madness), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Can’t Feel My Face”).
