Ella Mai Time EP cover

Emerging singer Ella Mai is ready to tell her story to the world. The British songstress, who is signed to DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers Records, has released her second EP titled TIME. The six-track offering takes listeners on an emotional journey through a relationship gone sour.

Mai proves that she’s a ride or die chick who loves hard. On the opening track, “Switch Slider,” she sings about being crazy in love with her man, despite him being unfaithful.

She sings, “My heart is telling me I’m crazy ’cause I shouldn’t be sticking around / Everybody know in the town / I’m the one that’s holding you down / You the one that’s hoeing around / Everybody know / Everybody know in the town / But I’m the one that’s still here now / Still loving my baby like he ain’t did nothin.”

Things take a quick turn on her Ty Dolla Sign-assisted track “She Don’t,” where ends up leaving her man. Throughout the rest of the EP, Mai deals with her emotions as she moves on from her relationship. Even when he tries to come back in the picture, Mai refuses to go back to him.

On “Don’t Want You,” she sings: “You messed up, boy you got that? / I’m good, ain’t no comebacks /You did this, I’ma run that.”

If that’s not enough, Mai wishes her ex nothing but the worst on the closing track “A Thousand Times.” She asserts that she is completely done with him after doing her wrong and making her look stupid.

“So when you come running back from the past you’ll be out of time / Because I’m done with your ass, you know that you is out of line / And if you ever move on to another one that you find / I hope you fall and you break your heart like you broke mine,” she sings.

TIME will leave listeners empowered and wanting more from Mai. The short and sweet project effectively paints the picture of a battered heart that was once blinded by love. Instead of crying (which is completely fine and natural), Mai gives her fans a set of songs to help them bounce back from heartbreak.
