Lion Babe has been putting in work since they released their debut album, Begin, last year. In addition to releasing their Sun Joint mixtape this summer, lead singer Jillian Hervey has teamed with H&M for their fall 2016 ad campaign.
Not only does Hervey appear in their ad commercial, but she also contributed to the soundtrack with her rendition of Tom Jones’ 1971 classic “She’s a Lady.” The socially-conscious video celebrates women of all sizes and walks of life.
“It was intimidating because Tom Jones has such a legendary sound,” Hervey told Teen Vogue. “We just tried to incorporate parts of the classic song that we felt were important like the guitar, but make it more contemporary for our time now. We just made minor tweaks and it made the song so much more powerful, and it made it come from the female voice. She’s the one saying ‘She’s a lady.’ She’s the one claiming her own identity.”
