The Weeknd has officially kicked off the promo for his third studio album. The singer revealed the title, Starboy, on Wednesday via Twitter. He also shared the album’s cover art, which was shot by Nabil.
On the eerie cover, The Weeknd is sitting with his hands on his head, looking directly into the camera lens. He is also seen wearing a crucifix and is rocking a new short hair style.
While a title and artwork is out, there aren’t many details surrounding the album at this time. In an interview with VMAN, he spoke about his inspirations for the new project.
“There are new inspirations on this album,” he said. “The production feels aggressive but still sexy. The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done. It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”
Starboy will serve as the follow-up to The Weeknd’s highly successful sophomore album, Beauty Behind the Madness.
