JoJo Performs National Anthem at Gillette Stadium

JoJo returned to her hometown Foxborough, Mass. on Sunday to perform the National Anthem at the Patriots vs the Bengals game.

Rocking a pink Patriots jersey to honor her grandmother Connie Connors, a breast cancer survivor, gave an impressive performance of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Speaking on her performance, JoJo said, “It was amazing. I just feel so many emotions being back home and it’s my first time singing the anthem here in a few years. After having put an album out just the other day, having my Nana be here, having it be Breast Cancer Awareness Month and celebrating her being a survivor, it’s just a lot going on in my feels.”

JoJo’s new album, Mad Love, is out now. It’s expected to sell 27-30k units in its first week of sales.

Peabo Bryson Nails ‘Love Like Yours and Mine’ on ‘1 Mic, 1 Take’

R&B veteran Peabo Bryson paid a visit to Capitol Records to perform a 1 Mic, 1 Take of his chart-climbing single, “Love Like Yours and Mine.”

In the black and white video, Bryson filled the studio B booth with his ageless vocals and delivered a breathtaking performance of the passionate ballad.

“Love Like Yours and Mine” is the lead single from Bryson’s upcoming release, Stand for Love, which is slated to arrive on August 3 via Perspective Records / Caroline.

The album was crafted jointly by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. “This project started with trust,” Bryson exclusively told Rated R&B. “There’s probably not more than two other people on this planet I would have trusted with this [album] for me than Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I knew it was the right thing to do. We set challenges for each other and those challenges were met and superseded in ways that you can only dream about. Their process was a wonderful thing for me … how involved they want you as an artist to be. They aren’t trying to make you into a cookie-cutter image or a projection of themselves. They want you to be you.”

If you can’t get enough of Bryson’s 1 Mic, 1 Take, catch him on tour this summer. His next stop will be in Los Angeles on July 20 at the Microsoft Theater.

PJ Morton Performs For NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’ Series

Before PJ Morton wraps up his More Gumbo Tour overseas, he visited NPR’s office for its Tiny Desk Concert series.

Supported by a 10-piece string section and background vocalists (The Amours), Morton stirred and served up three towering tracks from his Grammy-nominated Gumbo album including “Claustrophobic,” “Go Thru Your Phone,” and “First Began.” The latter tune was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Morton shared the inspiration for his song “Claustrophobic,” before performing it for the Tiny Desk crowd.

“So many people didn’t want me to be myself,” he said. “But I decided I was going to be PJ no matter what people told me and tried to get me to do.”

In March, Morton released an amazing live version of his Gumbo album.

JoJo on New Album: ‘I Just Want to Be as Raw as Possible’

A new JoJo album is on the horizon. The singer chopped it up with Sway Calloway of MTV’s TRL to share details on her upcoming project.

After recapping a photo-opt with Anderson.Paak, Thundercat, and Raphael Saadiq, JoJo said she is in the beginning stages of her new album. She told Sway, “We’re getting the dream team together.”

For the artistic direction of the new work, JoJo told Sway, “You know how hip-hop has influenced my life. I really want to bring that to the forefront of this project and make sure that it’s interwoven throughout this entire project.”

She continued, “I want to write in a way to where I’m being completely transparent to where it speaks particularly to young women. I want it to be hard. I want beats to be hard and I want the content to be real. I have nothing to hide and I just want to be as raw as possible.”

The forthcoming untitled LP will be JoJo’s first full-length release since 2016’s Mad Love, which featured appearances from Remy Ma, Alessia Cara and Wiz Khalifa. The new album is expected to be released on her new label imprint Clover Music alongside Interscope Records.

JoJo wrapped up her Leaks, Covers and Mixtapes Tour in late June.
