Over a year ago, Faith Evans revealed details about her duets album (The King & I) with her late husband Notorious B.I.G. Today, the singer shares two songs lifted from the project: “NYC” and “When We Party.”
On “NYC,” which also features Jadakiss, Evans and B.I.G. pay tribute to The Big Apple. The song contains a sample from B.I.G.’s 1993 unreleased freestyle “Mumbling and Whispering.”
“I got love for New York City / And they got me and B.I.G / They always gonna hold us down,” Evans sings on the feel-good track.
“When We Party,” which features Snoop Dogg, is an ode to the west coast nightlife. “When we party on the west coast / We be drinking and smoking all night long / We keep it funky on the west coat,” Evans sings on the chorus.
Both “NYC” and “When We Party” are solid tracks that have a nostalgic 90s vibe that many people miss.
Evans has worked closely with producer Stevie J to bring the project to fruition. Last January, Evans shared photos of her and Stevie in the studio working on the album.
In addition to Stevie J, Evans has also been working with producer/songwriter Benny Briggs (Faith Evans, Marques Houston, Mila J), singer-songwriter DJ Rogers, Jr. (Tyrese, Carl Thomas, Faith Evans) and musician Rodney Jones, Jr. (Avant, Music Soulchild, Mary Mary), to name a few.
