Welcome back to another edition of Chart Check! Each Friday, Rated R&B provides a detailed insight into the weekly chart movements of your favorite R&B artists and R&B songs. In this updated format, we will discuss Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs (Urban AC) and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop National Airplay (Urban) charts extensively. Read below for more information on the week of August 26, 2017:
On the Rise: Tank & The Weeknd
Tank’s records are known to heat up any bedroom, but this week his new sexy single “When We” is heating up the charts. The R&B General has landed another Top 10 hit on the Urban AC chart, as “When We” rises from No. 12 to No. 10 in the latest tracking week. “When We” also snagged six adds at R&B radio this week, which is the fourth-highest for the week.
Tank isn’t the only established artist with another rising record. Canada’s own The Weeknd is also making his own run at the chart with his new single “Die For You.” The Starboy cut gained 79 spins at Urban AC radio, making it the third-most added in the last tracking week. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see “Die For You” to make a splash on urban AC in the near future.
New Additions: Justine Skye and Jhené Aiko
Justine Skye is “Back For More” on her new single, which features Jeremih. It’s now time for the summer single to start getting into rotation on urban radio, as it was added to 10 urban stations in the latest tracking week. Thanks to Hitmaka’s production, catchy hook, and fun vibe, this might be Skye’s first chance at real radio success. You can watch the video, which stars fellow R&B artist and actor/singer Rotimi, above.
Although she’s popularized by her features, Jhené Aiko is also looking for solo success with her dreamy new single “While We’re Young.” The song gained 12 adds at Urban radio stations, making it the fourth-most added song in the latest tracking week. This isn’t her first radio rodeo, as she received a great response to her kiss-off record “The Worst” back in 2014. She’s now on the Urban Chart as a featured artist on 2 Chainz’s “It’s a Vibe,” which is No. 15 this week.

And in quick notes: The Adult R&B Songs chart saw four debuts this week, including already established hits “Love Galore” and “Wild Thoughts” from SZA and DJ Khaled. The songs sit at the No. 30 and 26 spots, respectively. The other two debuts belong to the inspirational “All I Got” from gospel artist Le’Andria Johnson at No. 29 and Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” at No. 28; Jacquees’ “B.E.D.” lifts 8-6 on the Urban chart this week. He released a video to the remix on Aug. 17, which features actress and singer Keke Palmer; After reaching the Top 10 two weeks ago, SZA can now celebrate a Top 5 record as “Love Galore” jumps 7-5 on the Urban chart. The lead single is just shy of the 20 million mark in urban radio audience; The 112 train has officially taken off with their new single “Dangerous Games” gaining 75 spins and 15 adds at urban radio, making it the most added song of the week; and finally, Lalah Hathaway’s new single is moving quite nicely as “I Can’t Wait” saw a 83 spin increase at Urban radio in the latest tracking week. The song is just 3 spots away from debuting on the official chart.
