Jessie Reyez Revisits Salem Witch Trials in ‘Body Count’ Video

Jessie Reyez makes a powerful statement in her “Body Count” video, which was directed by Peter Huang.

Speaking on the clip, Reyez said, “The video is inspired by the Salem witch trials; a bookmark in history for one of the many times women were persecuted. Sometimes for allegations of magic but often for low key sexual promiscuity or sexual selectiveness.”

She continued, “In short, you’re going to get judged anyway, so as long as you’re not hurting anyone and loving yourself, might as well do whatever you want. Whether that’s being celibate or being sexually free is your choice. Your body count is nobody’s business but your own.”

Reyez is scheduled to perform at the Bonnaroo Music Festival on June 9. She will hit other festivals this summer including BergenFest, Common Ground Festival and Lollapalooza. Reyez is will also join Halsey’s tour as a special guest on July 11.
