Recordings from Prince’s impeccable discography will be featured in a new musical.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures has secured rights to use several classic songs from the music icon’s catalog to bring an original story to fruition. The impending production is not a biopic since it has already been covered in Prince’s 1984 star-making film Purple Rain. This film is intended to put viewers in the mindset of Mamma Mia!, which was widely successful and featured music by ABBA.
Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince’s estate, will serve as the executive producer alongside Jody Gerson, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group.
In other Prince news, the legendary musician has two other film projects the way. Ava DuVernay is working with Netflix on a Prince documentary while another is coming to UK’s Channel 4.
