John Legend is doing his part to enlighten the world on social issues plaguing our country. His newly released “Preach” video is an eye-opening montage of the grim realities some marginalized groups face.
“Preach” chooses to not only showcase issues, but it also provides scenarios into how these events can happen. For the black victims in the video, their demise came by a “routine” traffic stop that ended in cold blood. The Hispanic victims were discovered by ICE agents and shipped into detention centers. Some sequences even hampered down on gun violence by including a grizzly scene featuring dozens of children’s corpses on an empty campus.
In a statement for the visual, Legend said, “The idea behind the song is that sometimes we can get so frustrated by the news and what’s going on and there’s this scatter going on in ourselves.” He goes on to note that feeling of frustration ends up channeling into a number of things, in his particular case, choosing to illuminate the injustices with his platform.
Soon, the ten-time Grammy winner will make his debut on The Voice when it airs February 25.
