The daredevil jumped out in Janine‘s official music video for “Never the Right Time.”
Co-directed by Paul Capra, the fearless video finds Janine drinking a glass of red wine during a candlelight soak. She soon submerges herself in the tub where she ends up in a full bed of water. Janine rejoins us on land – well, in her bathroom again – after exploring fantasies of girl on girl action.
While Janine understood the “intense physical risks” of shooting this video, she revealed that she “enjoyed coming up with this concept [herself] and watching it grow.”
“When I came up with the concept I was obsessed with the aesthetic of jumping between worlds, from the bathtub to the ocean. The amazing thing is that it started as a visual concept and turned out to be my emotional story and awakening at the same time.”
She continued, “While the song is actually about being torn as to whether to take a friendship any further for fear of ruining things, and not about the emotional connection and self-love cycle after a breakup, I think the two concepts merge beautifully.”
“Never The Right Time” appears on her debut album 99, which dropped in May 2018. The LP included fan-favorites “Unstable,” “Hold On,” and “Too Late.” She also released a visual for the latter track.
Last week, Janine premiered an unplugged version of Post Malone’s chart-topper “Wow.” She also mentioned she felt like tapping into her previous alias Janine and The Mixtape. She dropped two projects under that stage name, including 2015’s XXEP and 2013’s Dark Mind.
