Emerging Southern California artist Leven Kali has debuted a funky new jam titled “Sumwrong.”
Kali, who is all about providing vibes, does that in spades on this electric track. The lyrical content speaks of a protagonist urging their significant other to confide in them and voice their feelings. Fusing contemporary R&B with groovy elements of ‘70s funk, Kali takes his time to ensure every falsetto and breathy coo is finely placed.
“Sumwrong” follows a similar theme of his last few singles “NunWrong with a Lil Good Lovin” and “Do U Wrong.” In late 2018, Kali released a three-track EP I Get High When I Think About Us via Interscope Records.
Speaking on each track on his 2018 EP, Kali told Wonderland Magazine, “Love is a constant theme in this project. Love comes in all sorts of forms, and these three songs show some of those. ‘Thursday’ is a more promiscuous type of love. ‘Mine’ is more of a declaration…a real deep love. Even on ‘Too High,’ it’s about the love for getting faded with the homies. Musically there’s different vibes as well, but it all revolves around the themes of love.”
Kali is looking to release another project later this year.
