Surprise releases must be a Destiny’s Child thing. Kelly Rowland has rattled the internet with her new project, The Kelly Rowland Edition.
Exclusively co-produced by TWhy Xclusive and LordQuest, the three-track EP opens with “Don’t You Worry.” The midtempo bop is reminiscent of a late ’90s/early ’00s R&B sound. On the track, Rowland assures her man that no one can come in between them.
“They can’t break us down if they try / They don’t know the tears that we cried / It’s never going to change I know we can make it through anything,” she sings.
Rowland increases the tempo just a tad for “Diamonds,” a solid feel-good song dedicated to a long-lasting relationship. “Baby this is it / You and me / And no matter how it gets I will always be right here / You know I would never let you go,” Rowland sings on the pre-chorus.
The closing track, “See Me,” is a slow-burner for the bedroom. On the sultry tune, Rowland gives her man the option to turn the lights off or keep the lights on — either way, he needs to brace himself for a freaky night.
The Kelly Rowland Edition is the global superstar’s first project release since 2013’s Talk a Good Game. Earlier this year, Rowland confirmed that she is indeed working on her next album, which would be released independently.
