Leah Jenea has an incredible voice. The Four alum uses her wondrous vocals for an acoustic performance of “Valerie” by the late Amy Winehouse.
Instantly, as the guitarist strikes his guitar chords and Jenea breathes life into the first verse, she makes listeners fall in love with her effortless rendition.
“Covered one of my favorite songs by a very special artist,” wrote Jenea in the comment section of the video.
Lenea is no stranger to recreating classics. On her new EP Leah Sings Nina, the New Jersey native samples hit songs by the late High Priestess of Soul Nina Simone and pays respect to her legacy in a modern way.
“Every record on the EP embodies strength and realism,” said Jenea to Rated R&B earlier this spring. “Nina Simone definitely went through hardships to become who she is and songs like “Doin Dishes” that speak about the struggle of trying to succeed and being pushed back by troubles at the same time. I fought to keep her story alive, while also keeping the new age sound and feel.”
