British Nigerian singer Shae Jacobs makes a return with his new single “Joko,” a slow and steady afrobeat-infused track.
“‘Joko’ is a Nigerian term which directly translates to the English words ‘sit down,” Jacobs tells Rated R&B. “Depending on the tone, it can be either expressed harshly or used in a very romantic way in my culture. After being in London for almost four months I got to reconnect to what makes me who I am, being a young, black British Nigerian.”
After earning writing credits on records for artists like Teyana Taylor and Jason Derulo, Jacobs transitioned into the artist role in May with the release of his debut six-track EP titled What’s Hard to Say, Pt. 1.
Jacobs is not losing steam as a solo artist. He is planning to release another project entitled Wild Cards.
“I have always been heavily inspired by other genres in, which I usually align into my Pop/R&B sound,” Jacobs tells Rated R&B. “The next set of records I will be releasing under Wild Cards will be songs from the origins of who I am, from pure R&B to my roots which has now exploded into the scene across Europe and the world.”
