Janet Jackson is going on tour. The international music icon has announced her Black Diamond World Tour, which kicks off this summer in Miami.
Jackson will travel across major cities in the United States and Canada including Atlanta, Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit and Chicago. The dates for the European leg are expected to be announced soon.
The highly anticipated tour will support Jackson’s forthcoming album, Black Diamond, which is set to release later this year. The album will follow Jackson’s 2015 LP, Unbreakable.
Jackson explained the concept behind the term ‘black diamond’ in an Instagram post. “Black Diamonds are the toughest of all the diamonds, the hardest to cut,” she wrote. “I see that as the hardest to hurt or destroy. There is a lot that I have endured. I see myself as a Black Diamond in its purest form. I’m a rock, I have ruff edges but I keep moving forward. I want to show you my strength as well as give you strength.”

There aren’t many known details about Black Diamond. However, producer Harmony Samuels teased an EP from Jackson in 2018.
“Each song has a different feel,” Samuels told Rated R&B. “Each song has a different style. She bodies it! She does her thing.”
It’s not confirmed if any songs Samuels worked on are part of Black Diamond or if the alleged EP evolved into an album.
Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Thursday, February 13 at LiveNation.com.
