KIRBY has something to say — particulary to Black women.
The emerging singer has released her debut EP titled Sis. The ’70s-inspired set is filled with empowering songs that speak directly to Black women.
“As much as I want all women to love this music, I need women of color to hear it and know certain narratives about us are simply not true,” says KIRBY. “It’s what soul music sounds like when a woman falls in love and doesn’t give up her power.”
Sis. includes previously released songs “Kool Aid,” “We Don’t Funk” and “Don’t Leave Your Girl.”
The Memphis native’s resume includes penning songs for artists like Beyoncé (“Die With You”), Rihanna (“FourFiveSeconds”), Ariana Grande (“Break Your Heart Right Back”) and Demi Lovato (“Tell Me You Love Me”), to name a few.
“I left the mountain top of one career and went to the valley of another,” explains KIRBY about her transition from songwriter to solo artist. “But believe me, I see the mountain ahead. And it’s beautiful.”
