Emerging R&B star Giveon makes his message clear in the video for his acoustic cover of the fan-favorite song “Favorite Mistake.”
Using his somber tone and a dark piano as his backdrop, Giveon croons about his guilt in dealing with his side piece while on the way to her after hours.
“Should leave it alone / But you’re still getting closer / We both know it’s wrong / Can’t keep this for long / While it’s going on / I’ll put it in a song,” he hesitantly belts on the track.

“Favorite Mistake” is lifted from Giveon’s debut project, Take Time, which was released back in March. The Long Beach, California shared how the track came to be in an interview with Billboard.
He explained, “My approach to writing is, it’s either going to be a personal story about me and what I’ve personally been through, or it’s going to be inspired by a friend. This particular one was inspired by a mistake that a friend made [rather] than a specific mistake.”
Giveon earned his first Hot 100 entry on Drake’s song “Chicago Freestyle” earlier this month, peaking at number 14.
