Leon Bridges and John Mayer rock out in their surprisingly vivid, quarantine-themed video for their joint effort “Inside Friend.”
The self-directed video finds Bridges and Mayer crooning to their partners about wanting to make love with no strings attached; hence the term “inside friend.”
The colorful video sees Bridges and Mayer grooving against different backgrounds in their respective homes; from Bridges singing his heart out while grilling to Mayer migrating to a field to play his climactic guitar solo.
With this new collaboration, Bridges hopes to expand his sound to a broader audience as he readies his upcoming third studio album.
“I wanted to broaden my fan base and all that kind of stuff, he told Rated R&B. “I hope the younger generation can understand what I am doing because what I’m trying to push is rock n’ roll and blues.”
He continued, “Soul music is very important within the black culture because we started that shit. So, my goal is to incorporate that into my music but stay relevant and tell my story through that sound.”
“Inside Friend” is Bridges’ first release of 2020. His sophomore effort Good Thing was released in 2018 to critical acclaim, landing on Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2018 list.
