Today is Mahalia’s 22nd birthday, and what better way for the singer-songwriter to celebrate than by releasing new music?
Isolation Tapes is a three-track EP that runs close to 10 minutes. Mahalia co-wrote all the material with help from the likes of frequent contributors Felix Joseph, Jay Warner, Alastair O’Donnell and Timothy James Worthington, to name a few.
“As sad and uncertain as the time I put this EP together was, it’s also been a blessing in disguise,” Mahalia told Apple Music about the inspiration behind Isolation Tapes. “This isn’t something that is really part of our narrative as artists. I think everyone’s always looking at how to level up. But actually you might already have those tools in your box and you just don’t realize.”
The new effort arrives a month after Mahalia’s Cam’Ron-inspired track “What You Did” featuring Ella Mai peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.
In September 2019, Mahalia released her debut album Love & Compromise. The nostalgic set landed a position on Rated R&B’s top 30 R&B albums of 2019.
