In early January, Jac Ross released his resilience anthem “It’s OK To Be Black” as a daily fixture for Black pride and empowerment. As civil unrest rages across the world following police brutality and immense injustices against people of color, the emerging singer-songwriter responds with the release of the urgent track’s official video.
The Ricardo Castelin-edited video reflects the sign of the times, extracting powerful images of protest and marches that have been documented in cities across the country.
“I wrote this love letter at the adoration of my newborn daughter,” Ross said. “This song is a daily reminder for her and anyone out there that it’s ok to be who you are — and boldly embrace what makes you YOU.”
In May, Ross released a soul-stirring rendition of Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.” It followed his two other singles “Questions” and “Saved.”
The protégé of Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins will release his debut EP later this year on the Darkchild Records imprint through Island Records.
