Who doesn’t love a ‘90s R&B vibe? Singer-songwriter ROE interpolates Hi-Five’s classic track “I Like The Way (Kissing Game)” for her debut single aptly titled “I Like.”
With a nostalgic production and flirty lyrics, ROE captures the essence of two lovers who are on the same frequency when it comes to sharing their feelings for each other. “I like the way you / Kiss me when we love and you say my name / I like the way you / Show me what I’m feelin’, you feel the same / All I really want is you,” ROE sings on the chorus.
ROE shared the inspiration behind her first single in a statement. “‘Kissing Game’ found me in the studio that night. I hadn’t heard it in years prior to the night I wrote this song,” she said. “That’s the power and magic of timeless music, I guess. It floats around forever to live over and over again.” She added, “We need to flirt and love more than ever now.”
“I Like” is just the first taste from ROE’s forthcoming EP, which is set to release this fall.
