Back in September, Cautious Clay let the world know that he was in album mode and shared a new single (“Agreeable”) to celebrate the announcement. Now before the year ends, the well-rounded musician has released a new track titled “Dying in the Subtlety.”
This edgy R&B cut traverses through his spacious cranial of thoughts to offer an applicable takeaway. Clay uses the lyrics of “Dying in the Subtlety” to reinforce the idea of protecting your mental energy.
Clay detailed the meaning behind the new song in a statement. “‘Dying in the Subtlety’ is a look at what it means to lose sight of the bigger picture in the context of friendship & relationship dynamics,” he said. “It examines how subtle moments of emotional uncertainty or exuberance can sometimes serve as false negatives or false positives.”
He added, “The song ultimately calls to attention the importance of being aware of these internal signals and being more long-sighted when evaluating who you choose to give love and meaningful attention to in an age of distraction.”
In typical Clay fashion, he accompanies “Dying in the Subtlety” with a music video. He called on director Haoyan of America to bring his vision to life. Watch the video above.
Clay’s untitled debut album is slated to be released in 2021.
