At a historic Los Angeles mansion in 2019, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds convened with 80+ vocalists, instrumentalists, producers, and songwriters in collaboration with Keep Cool, made in partnership with Yours Truly and adidas Originals, to write and record songs for a future project. The results? Songs From Scratch: Volume 1.
Among the guest appearances on the five-track project are VanJess, Tone Stith, Gwen Bunn, Ginette Claudette, Bibi Bourelly, Tess Henley, Mez, ICECOLDBISHOP, Kennedi, and more.
Grammy and Oscar winner D’Mile lends songwriting and production, along with IAMNOBODI, Pierre-Luc Rioux, Jonah Christian, Varren Wade, and others.
“Songs from Scratch Vol. 1 is a natural extension of our ambition to put artists into positions where they can make things that surprise them, and us,” said Songs From Scratch curator Will Abramson. “For nine years, we’ve curated smaller 1:1 pairings, but we always wondered: what would happen if we put a whole bunch of artists and producers in one place, took really good care of them, and let them run free? We’re grateful to Keep Cool and Adidas originals for helping make that dream a reality.”
