In collaboration with Electric Lady Studios, the renowned recording studio founded by Jimi Hendrix in 1970, Spotify has launched Live At Electric Lady, a new series that invites diverse artists to perform and record an entire project. The first installment spotlights Jon Batiste, who delivers an eight-track release destined to give Soul music fans an eargasm.
For this incredible project, Batiste bonded with jazz greats Gary Bartz, Ron Carter, and Kenny Garrett to construct reimagined versions of songs from his most recent album, WE ARE.
In fact, the set kicks with the title track of the LP, featuring a sax solo from Garrett. The song’s overall presentation made way for “I NEED YOU,” another gem from his latest, where Batiste’s voice shines brightly throughout the swinging jazz tempo.
Batiste’s Live At Electric Lady EP doesn’t just boast his own material; it also features his smashing takes on classics by Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Daft Punk, and more.
“This recording is where I see music going in the future—global, spiritual, rooted, intricate, communal,” Batiste said in a statement.
William Garrett, the project’s EP, echoes his sentiments, saying, “Jon understands and appreciates stretching sonic boundaries and the power that those choices hold in the conversation with the listener.”
