With just a week away before Jennifer Hudson steps into the legendary shoes of Aretha Franklin in the Respect biopic, another marvelous cover from the companion soundtrack surfaces. This time, it’s “Ain’t No Way,” the 1968 B-side classic taken from Franklin’s Lady Soul album. It also was written by her younger sister Carolyn Ann Franklin.
Hudson’s committed interpretation of “Ain’t No Way” is astonishing and makes for a stronger argument to head out to theaters next Friday, August 13 to see her as the Queen of Soul.
As a bonus, the soundtrack arrives on the debut of the film. Included on it is Hudson’s unbelievable remake of “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman,” as well as her new original song “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home),” co-penned by Jamie Hartman and Carole King.
Hudson isn’t the only R&B starlet in Respect. Mary J. Blige and Heather Headley also appear in the anticipated film alongside Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, and more.
