Nowhere in the rule book does it say you have to be depressed after leaving a toxic relationship. In Thuy’s video for “Figured U Out,” she explores the whimsical side of discovering Mr. Wrong and moving on with life.
Directed by Brandon Lee Davis, the visual finds Thuy going back in time when smartphones did not exist, and analog and old digital games that required problem-solving ruled the world.
“I wanted to make it more abstract and quirky and about actually figuring things out,” said Thuy about the inspiration behind the video. “There are scenes with the detective aspects and games such as Tic Tac Toe, Rubik’s cubes, and puzzles to hint at the theme.”
She added, “It’s a really playful video with a bit of satire. I wanted to film it this way since the song is an upbeat anthem for the girls that were going through a breakup. My whole goal was to make it more playful rather than have the guy be the main focus of the video.”
“Figured U Out” is lifted from Thuy’s latest project, I Hope U See This, released in November. The nine-track project features appearances from DCMBR and John Concepcion.
