Fellas, don’t let Kenyon Dixon catch you slipping. Like the R&B icon Joe, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter proclaims on the new song “Getting Late” to do all the things you won’t do for your forgotten woman.
Written exclusively by Dixon, he pens a radiately warm slow jam to express gratitude to a neglected lover who doesn’t deserve broken promises but dashing charm.
The R&B loverman brags subtly to fulfill the desires of this wronged protagonist, singing, “If you really wanna get right, you already know / You can get what you want with me.”

“Getting Late” is the lead single for Dixon’s Closer (Deluxe), an expanded edition of his latest album, Closer, released in May. It’s slated to arrive soon.
Dixon says of the new single, “It’s the perfect transition from summer into fall. It captures the nostalgia of the R&B we’ve always loved perfectly. Couple that with an innovative modern approach, allowing you to still showcase the progression of music overall and somehow it feels like the early 2000s all over again. It’s just one of them ones.”
The standard version of Closer comprised 12 songs. It featured guest contributions from D Smoke, Gwen Bunn, Tiffany Gouché and Susan Carol.
“Closer is about me getting as close as possible to the R&B that we love and breaking down the core elements of R&B,” Dixon told Rated R&B.
“I even asked myself what I love about R&B. I took all of that and figured out how to communicate that sonically. It’s a project of intimate records that are really R&B heavy.”
Two singles preceded the album: “Love on Replay” and “Get High, Get By.” Dixon described the first single to Rated R&B as “an ode to classic love.”
“It’s identifying that somebody so different than everyone else around and all of the experiences that you had. To keep our love on replay is something that I want to continue to do because it’s a good feeling. It’s real love, so you want to do what you can to keep it around,” shared Dixon.
Since sharing Closer, Dixon headlined a U.S. tour to support the album and guested on Jade Novah‘s new EP Moon in Pisces.
