Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kenyon Dixon has returned with Closer (Deluxe), an expanded edition of his latest album.
Closer (Deluxe) features four bonus tracks, including “On My Mind,” “Getting Late (Extended),” “Love Away” and “Friend Zone.”
Regarding Closer (Deluxe), Dixon says, “It’s more of the R&B we love and have always loved. I think nostalgia plays a huge part in why R&B music makes us feel the way we do and so I wanted to make sure I continued to capture it in the most perfect way.”
He adds, “When those feelings can consistently be evoked every time you listen to a song, that’s what makes it a classic. That’s Closer. That’s Closer (Deluxe).”
Dixon shared the meaning behind Closer in an interview with Rated R&B. “Closer is about me getting as close as possible to the R&B that we love and breaking down the core elements of R&B. I even asked myself what I love about R&B. I took all of that and figured out how to communicate that sonically. It’s a project of intimate records that are really R&B heavy,” Dixon said.
“I want people to fall in love with music again, and I mean, really love it. When you love music, the way we did, it came with a certain kind of support that we haven’t seen,” he added. “I think the lack of support that would be comparable to what we’ve seen is because people don’t feel connected to music anymore. They’re just hearing a bunch of songs. We’re not even getting albums, so it’s impossible for anything to be cohesive.”
This summer, Dixon headlined his No Skips Tour in the U.S. with special guest Byron Juane. Earlier this month, he wrapped up the four-city international leg of his tour in Toronto, Canada.
