Richie had a year of celebration in 2022. He was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November. Rock legend Lenny Kravitz was on hand to honor Richie. That same month, Richie was presented with the Icon Award at the American Music Awards.
“I’m immensely grateful for a career that has taken me to places I never imagined that I’d go, from arenas worldwide to studio sets to the AMA stage,” Richie said of the recognition. “I can recall one of the first times I got to perform at the AMAs. It was to sing ‘We Are the World’ among the most iconic musicians of my generation, so it is surreal to be receiving this recognition 36 years later.”
The last Richie album, Hello from Las Vegas, was released in 2019. Before that, his previous non-live album, 2012’s Tuskegee, was a country-inspired project.
Last weekend, Earth, Wind & Fire performed a career-spanning concert at the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival.
In November 2021, “You Want My Love,” a collaboration with Lucky Daye and Earth, Wind & Fire, peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
The song, which samples the group’s 1975 classic “Can’t Hide Love,” marked their first top 10 single on that list in 28 years.
“You Want My Love” was produced by Babyface and Demonte Pose.
