First-round voting for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards started on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The deadline for first-round voting, which determines the nominations for the 2024 ceremony, is Friday, Oct. 20.
Nominations will be announced Nov. 10, and the live ceremony will be held Feb. 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be available to watch live on CBS or to stream on Paramount+ either live or on-demand.
The eligibility period for the 66th Grammy Awards was extended from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 15, 2023, up from Aug. 31. There are now 94 categories, with three new ones: Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best Alternative Jazz Album.
The R&B field maintains five categories: Best R&B Performance, Traditional R&B Performance, Song, Album, and Progressive Album. Each category guarantees at least five nominees.
The Recording Academy made some other notable changes ahead of the voting season. The organization expanded the general field to six categories from four, adding Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical and Songwriter Of The Year, Non-Classical. The latter category was introduced at the 2023 show.
Previously, the categories were Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, and Best New Artist.
According to the Recording Academy, including Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical and Songwriter Of The Year, Non-Classical in the general field will allow “all Grammy voters to vote in these important, non-genre specific categories.”
Another amendment: the number of nominees in the general field has been reduced from 10 to eight.
“Your participation in the voting process maintains the integrity of music’s only peer-voted honor and drives the Academy’s mission to celebrate music and its creators,” said the Recording Academy to its active voters.
