R&B singer, songwriter and producer Eric Roberson has released his new single “Just Don’t Hold It In.”
Roberson opens “Just Don’t Hold It In” with a moment of contemplation. “Sitting here, second-guessing everything going through my mind / Worry about what other people think is such a waste of time.”
He eventually overcomes his internal struggle by heeding advice from a trusted friend. “Don’t worry about mistakes / If you make them won’t you make ’em loud / Just don’t hold it in.”
Regarding his new single, Roberson says, “This song is a true example of freely expressing yourself without worry of judgment, expectation, assumption or ego. What I heard in my head fulfilled me. As I played the instruments, I felt rewarded. I felt purpose as the song poured out of me. What it does from here is left in the hands and hearts of the listener.”
“Just Don’t Hold It In” is the follow-up to Roberson’s previous two 2023 song releases, “Things Meant For Me” and “I Apologize.”
Roberson said the latter track was inspired by Stevie Wonder, Commissioned, and A Tribe Called Quest. Roberson launched his monthly song release with the former track.
“This song captures the thoughts I have shared and practiced for years. I truly believe we find songs more than we create them,” Roberson said of “Things Meant For Me.”
Roberson intends to keep putting out new songs every month until the end of the year, as part of his release plan.
Roberson last released an album in 2022 titled Lessons. The album consisted of 11 tracks, including the title track and an official remix featuring Anthony Hamilton, Raheem DeVaughn, and Kevin Ross.
“The hope is that Lessons will help people appreciate what they have and be hopeful for what’s to come,” Roberson told Rated R&B.
Lessons was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list. It secured an impressive position at No. 11.
Roberson is currently on his headlining Chasing A Feeling Tour. The North American trek began earlier this month and will conclude in December. Tickets are available now.
