Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Fridayy has returned with his new single “Without You” via Def Jam Recordings.
On the elegiac track, the Philadelphia native grieves the loss of his father, who passed away in January.
“I’m breakin’ down, I hear you tellin’ me to be a man / You know I ain’t sh*t without you, how could you leave me alone? / I’m goin’ far away ’cause without you there’s no hope,” Fridayy croons.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Fridayy reflected on the night he learned about his father’s death. “Got the call my Pop had passed right before I was bout hit the stage in Paris. I couldn’t tell you the feeling. I was just with him before I went on my headlining Europe tour, I was showing him the videos of the US Tour, He kept saying, wow all those ppl?? I’m proud of you son. I told him, it’s all cause of what you put inside me.”
He continued, “All the discipline you taught me. The music you introduced me to. Whole time in Europe My mom telling me my dad keep asking for me, I told him I’m making this money I gotta take care of the family now. Make sure we good. I knew I had to keep going when I lost you, cause that’s what you’d do to care of mom. I saw you do it when you lost everything.”
Fridayy also opened up about his experience making “Without You.” He wrote, “My single is a Dedication to you and all the ones we lost. I couldn’t get through recording this song without tears in my eyes. I love you forever Pop. Look out over me.”

“Without You” is Fridayy’s first single since releasing his self-titled debut album last August. The album included features from Chris Brown, Maverick City Music, Byron Messia, Adekunle Gold and Fireboy DML.
The album’s current single, “When It Comes to You,” is in its 27th week on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. It peaked at No. 7 and is No. 9 at the time of publication.
“This album is the story of Fridayy, but it’s also the story of other people too. It’s a project for us, by me. I want people to connect to their experiences as they hear mine,” explained Fridayy.
“I’m talking about hope and inspiration as much as I’m talking about trials and tribulations. You can’t talk about the dream without talking about the pain. Those life aspects are universal, so I’m hoping it touches as many people as possible as they see themselves in me.”
