Rising Amapiano/R&B-pop star Tyla has released her self-titled debut album via FAX Records/Epic Records.
The 14-track album includes the Grammy-winning single “Water,” as well as the previously shared “Water (Remix)” featuring Travis Scott, “Truth or Dare,” “Butterflies,” “On and On,” and “To Last.”
TYLA also includes guest appearances from Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng and Becky G.
Speaking on her debut, Tyla told GRAMMY.com, “I always wanted this album to be my introduction to the world. And I feel like this is the best introduction I could have made. It’s me in music form, packaging into a 14-track project.”
She added, “Tyla was the only title that made sense for this one. I only did my best. I’m sure that the people who receive it well are the people who are meant to hear it. I’m excited to see who loves it, what they have to say, and what comes from it.”
Sylvia Rhone, CEO and chairwoman of Epic Records, shared in a statement, “The groundbreaking success of ‘Water’ is a testament to Tyla’s God-given talent, diligent work ethic, and what can happen when those two elements marry perfectly.”
Rhone continued, “We’re so proud of Tyla. With each new song, video, viral dance trend, and now album, the full scope of her unique artistry becomes apparent. She’s bringing her culture to the world stage and helping to pave the way for a whole new generation of African artists.”
“The Tyla story is one that has already inspired millions of people,” noted Ezekiel Lewis, president of Epic Records. “Her young star is on the rise, and this project marks one more step towards the achievement of a global music fan base rooted in the touch and feel of Amapiano, R&B, and Pop. Her music is an export of African music and culture ‘The Tyla Way,’ and we are eager to share this amazing body of work with the world. Stay Tuned.”
Tyla was scheduled to support her album on her headlining tour. However, she recently canceled the North American leg due to an injury. “As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today,” Tyla said. “For the past year I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation.”
