Kehlani is back again with their new project, While We Wait 2, released via Atlantic Records.
While We Wait 2 is the sequel to their 2019 mixtape, While We Wait, which has been certified gold by the RIAA.
The 14-track project includes the recently released single “When He’s Not There,” featuring Lucky Daye. In this sexy groove, Kehlani and Daye rub in taking up space on the empty side of the bed while their partner’s other lover is away.
Dixson, Lil’ Mo, Destin Conrad, Vince Staples, kwn, and Childofnines all take part in the project.
One highlight is “Slow Dance,” featuring Dixson, who co-writes and co-produces the track with Camper and Kehlani. The sweaty love jam depicts two individuals struggling to keep their hands to themselves as they eagerly anticipate disrobing each other for a night of passion.
Apart from the original tracks, While We Wait 2 also features remixes of songs from Kehlani’s recent album Crash. These remixes include “8” featuring emerging R&B trio FLO, who will also support Kehlani on tour later this summer, and “After Hours” with LUDMILLA.
While We Wait 2 is Kehlani’s second project release of 2024, following their fourth album, Crash, which was released on June 21 via Atlantic Records. Kehlani preceded the album with the release of two singles: “Next 2 U” and “After Hours.”
Crash includes features from Jill Scott, Omah Lay and Young Miko.
Of their album, Kehlani said, “A crash, in any form, is the peak height of the moment. It isn’t the anxiety of the before, or the lament after. It is the ever so imperative present. A space with no reminisce, no remorse, and no afterthought. CRASH IS HERE. At my most free, most fun, most loud, most fueled, so far.”
Crash debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, pushing 19,668 equivalent units in the first week. It also launched at No. 25 on the Billboard 200.
In support of Crash and While We Wait 2, Kehlani will embark on a Live Nation tour throughout North America. The Crash World Tour kicks off Sept. 4 at the Armory in Minneapolis and includes stops in Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Miami, and Las Vegas.
The trek will wrap up on Nov. 2 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Rising singer Anycia will also join Kehlani on tour as a supporting act.
