It may be autumn, but Dominic Scott still has the sunny season on his mind. The indie R&B singer has released his new project Dear Summer (Alternate Ending).
The deluxe album includes all eight songs from the original version plus three new tracks: “Too Late/For Your Love,” “Make You Mine” and “Jill’s Reprise.”
“For me, the Alternate Ending was about bringing the story to a happy ending and allowing my audience and community to choose which story they wanted to experience,” Dominic tells Rated R&B. “I got the idea for the deluxe during a trip to the beach in LA.”
Dominic closes the project with “Jill’s Reprise,” a beautiful spoken word poem recited by three-time Grammy winner Jill Scott.
Speaking on his collaboration, Dominic states, “Jill Scott being on the album was a big testament to the body of work we created with Dear Summer. The album is like a poem, and with Jill known for her penmanship and takes on love, it felt like the perfect way to close out the album.”
He continues, “She also represents the end of an era and the start of a new one. As an independent artist, this allows me to think bigger when it comes to creating and building new worlds.”

The standard version of Dear Summer was released Aug. 30, 2023, and included the lead single “Give You My Loving.”
Dominic explained to Rated R&B, “‘Give You My Loving‘ was inspired by wanting something deeper than the surface and the need for real love. I was bored with music at the time I recorded the song and wanted to push myself to make something that felt ‘out of the box’ for me.”
Dear Summer also featured rapper Pell, New Orleans singer BLÜ, genre-bending artist $leazy EZ, and Cubs The Poet.
Dominic Scott released his debut mixtape, Color Theory, in 2022.
