Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, has revealed the official trailer for his new feature film Hurry Up Tomorrow.

The psychological thriller, which hits theaters May 16, co-stars Tesfaye (as Abel), Jenna Ortega (as Amina) and Barry Keoghan (as Lee).

According to the film’s official logline, “A musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow is directed by Trey Edward Shults and distributed by Lionsgate. Shults recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the film, including whether it’s meant to end The Weeknd’s persona.

“I tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it’s very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it,” Shults said.

He added, “And for people that aren’t his fans and don’t know anything about him or even care about the final capping of The Weeknd, I think you still have a great movie to go through.”

The Weeknd commented, “I realized just how much of a catalyst this art form can be for conversations about our emotions, mental health, and vulnerabilities.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow is named after The Weeknd’s sixth album, released Jan. 31 via XO/Republic Records. The film will premiere shortly after he kicks off his After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour with Playboi Carti and Mike Dean.

At this time, the tour schedule is clear the week of the movie’s debut, which could mean he will be on a promo trail.
