After much anticipation, The Weeknd has released his sixth album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, via XO/Republic Records.
The 22-track album is preceded by the singles “Timeless” with rapper Playboi Carti and São Paulo featuring Brazilian star Anitta. It’s worth noting the album’s era-launching single, “Dancing In The Flames,” did not make the final cut.
Hurry Up Tomorrow includes additional hidden features from Lana Del Rey (“The Abyss”), Florence + The Machine and Travis Scott (“Reflections Laughing”), Future (“Enjoy The Show”), Justice (“Wake Me Up”), and Giorgio Moroder (“Big Sleep”).
On the album’s latest single, “Open Hearts,” The Weeknd sings about the struggle of giving love another chance after heartbreak.
He croons in the chorus: “Where do I start / When I open my heart? / It’s never easy falling in love again / Cover my scars (Cover my scars) / When I open my arms (Open my arms) / It’s never еasy falling in love again.”
On Thursday night (Jan. 30), the global star appeared as a musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he performed the vulnerable track for the first time.
Hurry Up Tomorrow also includes the previously previewed “Take Me Back To LA.” He performed the track, along with “Timeless” and “São Paulo,” during his set at his stadium concert in São Paulo, Brazil last fall.
Proceeds from “Take Me Back To LA” will be donated to LA Regional Food Bank, who are providing emergency food assistance to those directly impacted by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
The album was originally scheduled to release Jan. 24 with a one-night-only concert at Rose Bowl. However, it was postponed due to the wildfires and the singer donated $1 million to the LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, and LA Regional Food Bank.
“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” The Weeknd said. “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st.”
Hurry Up Tomorrow is the final installment of The Weeknd’s album trilogy that began with 2020’s After Hours followed by Dawn FM (2022). It’s also reportedly the singer, born Abel Tesfaye, final album as The Weeknd.
“It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” he told W Magazine in 2023. “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
Hurry Up Tomorrow is also the title of the upcoming feature film inspired by the album. The psychological thriller, co-starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, hits theaters May 16.
