Rising R&B sensation Jai’Len Josey has returned with “New Girl,” her first taste of new music in two years, via Hillman Grad Records/Def Jam.
On the bouncy track, which she co-produced with HeroThaProducer, Madness and Michael Barney, Josey sings of the thrill that comes with a budding romance.
“Don’t be afraid of my loving, boy / Giving all of my might / You’re liking what you’re seeing / So come on, baby, put the fire deep in,” she sings.
Speaking on her blazing track, Josey explains, “‘New Girl’ is about that cute feeling you get as a girl when you first start talking to a guy. It’s like, ‘I saw you. You saw me. What’s the next move?’”
She adds, “Musically, the track mixes R&B and U.K. garage. A lot of my experiences come from underground New York and the music I heard when I was on Broadway. I’m bending those ballroom pockets with R&B and creating a world of my own.”
“New Girl” arrives with a vibrant workout-themed visualizer that brings the song’s fun and flirty lyrics to life.
“New Girl” will appear on Josey’s forthcoming debut album, Serial Romantic, executive produced by the legendary Tricky Stewart (Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Rihanna).
The album will follow Josey’s 2023 EP, Southern Delicacy. The latter project, released April 14, 2023, her delicious track “Good Soup” and the intoxicating “Pay For My Drink.”
“Southern Delicacy symbolizes growth. It’s the story of me, and all the situations and relationships that have molded me into the woman I’m becoming. All the experiences of my life in Atlanta, in the south, all made me into who I am,” Josey explained.
Later that fall, Josey released Conversations From a Payphone, a double single that included “Mixed Signals” featuring Matt McGhee and “Playground.” “This two-pack is the glimpse of what’s to come,” Josey told Rated R&B. “It’s an even deeper ride into my mind as an artist and producer.”
