Mariah Carey celebrates the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking album The Emancipation of Mimi with a commemorative rerelease.

The Emancipiation of Mimi (20th Anniversary Edition) features all the album’s original tracks, including No. 1 hits “We Belong Together,” “Shake It Off” and “Don’t Forget About Us,” plus previously unreleased tracks, special remixes, instrumentals and acapellas.

Some of the new tracks include “When I Feel It,” “Say Somethin (Solange Southern Star Remix)” and “Don’t Forget About Us (Kaytranada Remix).”

“So happy to celebrate this milestone anniversary with you all for an album that meant so much to me then, and means even more now!” Carey wrote on social media.

The Emancipation of Mimi was released April 12, 2005, via Island Def Jam. Carey’s historic comeback album, which debuted atop the Billboard 200, spawned the No. 1 singles “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us.” Both chart-toppers were co-written by Carey, Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox and Johntá Austin.

“We Belong Together” spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The tender ballad earned Carey two Grammys at the 48th annual ceremony for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.

The Emancipation of Mimi was one of the highest-selling albums in 2005, with nearly five million copies sold. In 2022, the Grammy-winning album was certified 7x platinum by the RIAA, with over seven million equivalent units sold in the U.S.

Carey celebrated the milestone anniversary of her 10th studio album with Mariah Carey Live: The Mimi Sessions. The 10-minute performance, which premiered on Carey’s YouTube channel, featured stripped-down renditions of “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Circles,” “Your Girl” and “We Belong Together.”

She, along with Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin and Snoop Dogg, will be celebrated for “their decades of groundbreaking contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy, and community impact.”
