Dealing with an insecure lover isn’t always easy. On “Friend of a Friend,” Trevor Jackson does his best to reason with his suspicious partner.
Over RockBoyBeats’ production, he reassures his fed-up woman of his loyalty after she confronts him for dancing with someone else at the club. Judging by the lyrics, this isn’t the first time Jackson has been accused of wrongdoing. There’s an exhaustion in his delivery that suggests that he’s growing tired of the blame game.
“She ain’t nothing but a friend of a friend of a friend / We go through this again and again and again / So go ahead and talk your sh*t and say you done with me,” he croons in the chorus.
“Friend of Friend” is the first single from Jackson’s upcoming album, which will be released via his Born Art label in partnership with UnitedMasters.

According to press materials, the album was created “during a period of personal upheaval, including the end of a six-year relationship.” The untitled project will explore “themes of heartbreak, masculinity, and emotional healing.”
Jackson’s next album will follow 2024’s It’s Complicated, which examined the complexities of modern love and relationships. Jackson’s new project will build off the story, “offering a refined sound and even deeper lyrical exploration.”
Speaking on It’s Complicated, Jackson noted, “This year has been the most difficult year yet, which is ironic because this is the happiest I’ve been with my music. Music has saved my life quite literally I’ve experienced the love of God thru music. I’ve cried to it. I’ve laughed to it. I’ve time-traveled with it. I’ve found myself in it. I’m forever grateful to it.”
