Lady Wray, formerly Nicole Wray, makes a fierce return with her new album Cover Girl, released via Big Crown Records.
Since early spring, Wray has slowly peeled back layers of the 11-track project by sharing “Best For Us,” “Be A Witness,” “Time,” “You’re Gonna Win,” “My Best Step,” “Hard Times” and the title track ahead of its release.
Whereas the preceding album, Pieces of Me, leaned into more introspective territory, Cover Girl finds Wray standing firm in her confidence, celebrating all that she endured and more. Look no further than the opener, “My Best Step,” where Wray champions her resilience, singing, “My next step is my best step.”
Songs like the dance floor-ready “You’re Gonna Win” and piano-laden “Higher” reaffirm Wray’s spirit of empowerment. “You can be anything you wanna be / You have wings, fly free,” she sings in the latter track.

Wray returns to her gospel roots on the stirring closing track, “Calm,” where she leans on her Higher Power. “The Lord’s holding my hand / Leading me through the troubled land,” she sings.
As indicated above, Cover Girl follows Wray’s 2022 album, Piece of Me. The latter project included the singles “Come On In,” “Under The Sun,” “Joy & Pain” and the title track.
Regarding Cover Girl, Wray shared, “I’ve gravitated more towards love and self-care with this album. Piece of Me was realizing that I was going to be a mother, and all those feelings were on my heart.”
She added, “Now I’m able to sit back and be a real boss. I got my career, my motherhood, and my marriage by the horns. I’ve grown into this more self-aware and beautiful flower for Cover Girl.”
Wray is currently on tour supporting Cover Girl. The tour, which kicked off Sept. 28, has upcoming stops in New York City, Portland, Montreal, Chicago and more.
