Gun violence is growing more rampant in the United States, with targets ranging from children and Black and Brown people to civilians trying to enjoy the holidays like everyone else. Watching these senseless massacres happen at an alarming rate can take a toll mentally on anyone.

R&B newcomer JKing calls for an end to gun violence, using his new song “Our Future” as a call to action.

On this self-written track, JKing speaks from a place of concern not only for himself but for his fellow man. With both hands raised in fear, he thoughtfully questions the value of lives that look like him.

“Do we matter / Safe in the hills, writing those bills / Until it hits home / I’m anxious / Don’t pull the trigger, I ain’t gangsta,” JKing melodically sings over the simplistic production.

In tandem with “Our Future,” JKing released an accompanying visual to go along with it. The black-and-white video sees him sitting on a speaker singing in front of Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Our Future” is JKing’s fourth release of the year and it comes just under a week after “Sweet.” He shared a live performance video for the latter track. His other two songs, “Let It Rain” and “Moonlight” dropped earlier in the year.

All four tracks followed his debut project, ’90s F*k It Vibes, released in November 2021. The 10-track effort featured “Is You,” his debut song and the focus track “Type.” Established singer-songwriter Elijah Blake also made an appearance.
