RINI is back. The emerging singer joins forces with Grammy-winning artist BEAM for a new song titled “Selfish.” It’s the lead single from RINI’s upcoming EP, Ultraviolet, arriving later this fall.

“I think these past couple years for me have involved a lot of growing and realization within myself. I learned to give grace to myself, which in turn allowed me to give grace to others. I learned to set boundaries, which allowed me to respect others,” RINI exclusively tells Rated R&B.

He adds, “‘Selfish’ plainly describes how it feels to be in a situation where your boundaries aren’t respected and how frustrating and exhausting it could get. It’s all been a process and something I had to learn the hard way.”

BEAM exclusively tells Rated R&B what it was like to collaborate with RINI for his brand-new single. “I would describe RINI’s energy with one word, balanced. I swear dude belongs in the ’70s. I definitely had fun making the record from a conversation to the mic,” he says.

“‘Selfish’ all started from us talking about our past relationships and just people in general. Even us, at the end of the day, have selfish intent. It felt right to spill that convo on the mic when we heard that soulful beat from Cool and Dre.”

RINI rolled out the official video for “Selfish,” which was directed by Morian Mikhail.

Ultraviolet will follow RINI’s 2021 debut album, Constellations. RINI says his new EP “comes from a different place, of different influence.”

He further explains, “It’s bolder, more upfront and a more dauntless version of RINI that translates into the sound of the EP. I’ve taken a different approach sonically and I could say that I’m taking a risk with some of the songs simply because it’s different to the usual vibe that you would expect to hear from me but that’s really the whole point of it. Ultraviolet is the product of this.”

Constellations, released on Warner Records, boasted appearances from Wale and Maeta and featured the singles “Bedtime Story” and “For Days.”

In a 2021 interview with Rated R&B, the Melbourne, Australia, native broke down tracks from Constellations and shared why the complete album is special to him.

“A lot of people are showing a lot of love, and I hope that they can share that love with people who have not heard it because, to me, the album is like a baby. That’s my baby. So I trust everybody to hold my baby,” RINI shared.

Solo music aside, RINI teamed up with rising singer Thuy for the song “Trust.”

“I’m so so happy I got to be part of this beautiful song, it’s the perfect summer Jam and the visual really speaks to me and I know it would do the same for a lot of people who are in relationships. Thank you Thuy for creating this gem with me,” he said in a statement.

As for BEAM, he recently appeared on “Energy” from Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, Renaissance.
