R. Kelly stopped by the V-103 radio station in Atlanta to chat with Big Tigger about his upcoming album, Black Panties, and returning to his hip-hop/R&B roots.
The Chicago native said that although he has both old school and new school fans, Black Panties will cater towards his younger fans.
“You got the new school [fans] that want to hear 12 Play and the whole nine,” the R&B singer said. “Right now, I’m on my 12 Play.”
R. Kelly went on to describe this album as the “returning of the 12 Play album, which is called Black Panties.
During the interview, R. Kelly told of his reasoning for naming the album Black Panties.
“I was in a concert and I was doing ‘Body’s Callin’ at the Single Ladies Tour,” he said.
“And all of these panties started coming up on the stage out of nowhere. I didn’t plan it, it just started happening. I think a medium [pair of panties] came out of the sky and landed on my wrist, and they were black. And that was like a sign.”
Black Panties is R. Kelly’s thirteenth studio album and will be released later this year.
