Genre-bending singer Fousheé has announced her sophomore album, Pointy Heights, will release Sept. 13 via RCA Records.

The forthcoming project includes the lead single “Still Around,” which was produced by Steve Lacy and Karriem Riggins.

Regarding the breezy track, Fousheé tells Rated R&B, “‘Still Around’ is a song about acceptance. One of the most debilitating things you can do is correlate love with ownership when, in its purest form, there’s a healthy level of detachment. This song is my reminder not to fall for the idea of a person but to love, let love, and enjoy what you are to one another in the moment.”

The album will also include the latest single, “War,” solely written and produced by Fousheé. On the groove-driven track, Fousheé speaks peace into her life: “Bad girls don’t fuss, they’d rather be / Living a life of harmony / What’s watered grows and as for me / I’d rather not be at war,” she sings.

Speaking on “War,” Fousheé exclusively explains to Rated R&B, “I was looking for a bridge between the music I’d already been making and music that’s existed in Jamaica. ‘War’ is a modern interpretation of an early ska classic. Lyrically, the metaphor of ‘War’ pertains to mental warfare and how what we experience is a direct reflection of our thoughts.”

Pointy Heights was inspired by Fousheé’s trip to Jamaica, where her family is from and a place she hasn’t visited since her childhood.

During her trip, she already had songs that she was working on for her next album. However, being back in Jamaica inspired her to go a different direction, ultimately scrapping what she had worked on to start anew.

The album is titled after the name of the land her grandfather purchased in Jamaica for the family to use to build their homes and live.

Pointy Heights is the follow-up to Fousheé’s 2022 debut album, softCORE. The alt-rock project included the singles “I’m Fine,” “Supernova” and “Spend the Money” featuring Lil Uzi Vert.

In 2021, the New Jersey native released her debut EP, Time Machine. The project included her breakout single “Deep End,” which is certified gold by the RIAA for selling over 500,000 equivalent units.
